Do you really have any idea what a Blu Ray Dvd is? New technology can be very confusing sometime, you know you want to buy something but you get confused and end up buying nothing because of your confusion.
If you are like me who grew up with VHS or dare i say Betamax, then some of this terminology can be difficult to understand.
Basically a Blu Ray Dvd Player uses a blue laser as opposed to the normal disc players who use a red laser to read the dvd’s. And there you have it, the Blu Ray was born.
The original company who developed this technology was Sony, but they needed the help and expertise of all the other big electronics manufacturers in order to bring this product to market.
You may or may not be aware of the format war that was going on between the Blu Ray dvd and the HD dvd’s, both of the technologies were fighting for world domination of their own product.
Toshiba who were the main driving force behind HD dvd’s decided to pull out of the race and this left the way open for Blu Ray technology to take over. The main leading companies who were pushing the Blu Ray product formed
an alliance called the BLU-RAY DISC ASSOCIATION (BDA).
The biggest advantage of the blu ray disc is its storage capability, it is able to store as much as 5 times the storage capability of a normal dvd disc.
Being able to store so much date on something that is a small as a disc could be invaluable to researchers who need to store lots of data and be able to do it by using blu ray discs.
If you have been lucky enough to experience a blu ray disc in action and watched a movie, you will have to agree that the audio and video codecs are vastly superior to those of a normal dvd disc, making thw whole movie experience even more exciting.
What is fantastic about blu ray discs is that a user can store upto 20 movies on one disc which is very impressive
and all will be in high definition, how great is that.
The blu ray technology although still relatively in its infancy is going to take over the world. Like all new technology’s, the prices for Blu Ray dvd players and Blu Ray discs are still quite expensive. It is no different to when Plasma & LED flatscreen televisions
came out, the prices were about £4000, but look at the prices today and how much they have come down. Blu Ray technolgy and its products will follow the same cycle. We are already seeing pricing of these products reducing as more and more get produced.
